This class will examine the methods and benefits obtained in the implementation of a geotechnical Building Information Modeling (BIM) utilizing AutoCAD Civil 3D software and HoleBASE SI for a large transportation project with 118-plus borings within the Seattle area. McMillen Jacobs Associates knew they needed better visualizing methods and improved workflow efficiency when working with geotechnical data than those that the firm's legacy gINT system offered. The firm had a strong desire to utilize the functionality that Autodesk technology offered. The aim was to let this data be easily viewed and exploited in AutoCAD Civil 3D. The class will cover the transition to the AutoCAD Civil 3D / Keynetix solution, why a change was required, the new workflows developed to incorporate both legacy and new data, and the integration between the data management system HoleBASE SI and AutoCAD Civil 3D. We will also discuss any problems encountered in the process, together with the benefits gained and future opportunities the new technology will create.

In this class, we will focus on the connection between the BIM model and project specifications. If a picture is worth a thousand words, then your specifications are a picture of your construction documents. Yet these two document types are typically done separately and without any automated coordination, requiring users to manually assure that the objects represented in the model actually are correctly represented in the specifications. We will go through the process of setting up the coordination environment, as well as the scenario of coordination with those outside your office environment who may be off your company network. We will review the process of automating and controlling the flow of information and review case studies of successful projects and clients that are utilizing these methods.

Using highly accurate model data directly in the field reduces project risks and avoids errors and delays that can derail the entire construction schedule and budget. These challenges can be easily resolved by applying the latest best practices for integrated workflows. Attend this class to learn how to utilize the Autodesk Point Layout (APL) plug-in for Revit, Navisworks and AutoCAD for digital construction layout.  This course will show you how to add control points to align model data in the office and in the field, add points to Revit families and other components, as well as sort, filter and edit points.  You will learn how to prepare data for the field inside of Revit so that data flows seamlessly to the field software that controls the Leica iCON robot.  You will also learn how to as-built points and seamlessly bring them back into CAD or BIM to assess deviations identified in the field.

To maintain competitive advantage, more and more structural engineers are trying to find ways to capitalize on their BIM (Building Information Modeling) data for steel detailing and fabrication. This class will explore how Advance Steel detailing software is proving to be the missing link that lets structural engineers capitalize on their Revit Structure models for steel detailing and fabrication. You will also learn how to use Connection Vault in Advance Steel to create automated steel connections on structural members imported from Revit software. You will then learn how to create the automated fabrication and erection drawings and NC files. This class will also show how the bidirectional sync between Revit and Advance Steel lets you bring any Revit changes into Advance Steel software or validate Advance Steel models in Revit software.

This class will cover the use of many Autodesk, Inc., Building Information Modeling (BIM) software, such as Revit Architecture software, Revit MEP software, Revit Structure software, AutoCAD Civil 3D software, Navisworks software, and cloud services, including BIM 360 Glue software and BIM 360 Field software, in order to assist in the daily maintenance and operations of airports.

This class will compare the process of building a Revit software model from reality capture 3D laser scans versus building one from historic plans. Often clients assume that modeling from a plan is faster and cheaper than sending a scanning crew to the site. We look at several case studies and compare the numbers to show how and why 3D laser scanning is less expensive, faster, and more accurate.

For years, Saudi Binladin Group (SBG)- a construction industry leader in Saudi Arabia where most government contracts are 2D-drawing based- did an in-depth study of the loss of time and the aborted works, ending with the determination that Building Information Modeling (BIM) represents both an enhanced technology and a process change.
