This session will involve Mercury Construction—European leader in construction, delivering projects for the world's leading corporations—and SSEN Transmission, owner and operator of the electricity transmission network in Northern Scotland. Working on either side of the client/contractor fence, Mercury will discuss its respective digital journey and how it embraced the power of Autodesk Cloud Services to deliver excellence and galvanize collective expertise across its teams. Our team created a digital twin of retail store located in the shopping mall complex using Autodesk Tandem software–reducing missed inspection time by 90% By combining laser scanning, intelligent modeling, and asset element and IoT sensor data in Tandem extended through our mobile app, we empower plant management to monitor assets and make more-informed business decisions. Dawood integrated our native mobile application—built with Flutter, Supabase, and BuildShip—to record equipment inspections. Elements are tagged with QR codes, enabling rapid information access. This allows for data exchange between the mobile app and digital twin using the Tandem API—making it the single source of truth. This allows on-site engineers to access information on the go to complete daily inspections and send inspection data to the digital twin so that management can assess and respond to events in real time. Automated reminders reduce incidents.

Bridge construction in Norway in 2024 is a different ballgame than it was in 2015. We've transitioned to full digital design and construction without drawings. This would have been impossible without a rich Revit API. We've created our own add-in, scaling from 10 users in 2019 to 1,300 users in 2024. What a success! But the challenge has not been object-oriented coding in C#, but rather scaling the knowledge. How can we scale technology efficiently and fast? What are the obstacles? Advanced nuclear is challenged to design and construct on short timelines, with smaller budgets and fewer workers. Digitalization can help companies overcome these constraints. Unfortunately, a digital twin (DT) is often presented as a monolith. This results in organizations abandoning DTs as having benefits that are minimal or unrealized in time. Many perceive DTs as too large an undertaking to even begin. However, digitalization isn't a track meet; it's a marathon of incremental milestones. And, like all races, it has a starting line. This session will summarize a journey that Argonne National Laboratory and Implexus Lab made to digitize the Mechanisms Engineering Test Loop (METL), a test facility for advancing sodium fast reactors. Components were designed with Inventor software and assembled in Navisworks software, and AutoCAD software generated construction documents. Integrating with Revit provided a DT foundation. Ultimately, the suite of Autodesk tools enabled the creation of a DT boasting live data visualization within a virtual reality (VR) environment.

Autodesk Informed Design and Data Exchange are the platform technologies we use to connect plant design and construction, with the help of Autodesk Construction Cloud. It's never been so easy to share data and its configurations. Data Exchange makes it very easy to collaborate and share information in integrated factory modeling (IFM) within Autodesk software systems, but also with applications such as Tekla or SolidWorks. Autodesk Construction Cloud helps us store all information centrally and make it available to everyone involved in the project. Informed Design offers the possibility to provide configurations from Inventor software for various types of building equipment in Revit software as configurable families. This ensures that only predefined variants are installed and prevents cost-intensive special solutions. Last year, we talked about the possibilities of the beta versions. Now we would like to take a closer look at the solutions and share experiences from customer projects with you. It's going to be good!

Construction disputes carry significant risk for all owners, operators, contractors, suppliers, consultants, and insurers. Max Abrahamson wrote, "A party to a dispute… will learn three lessons (often too late): the importance of records, the importance of records, and the importance of records." Claims and disputes are common. However legal fees and arbitration/litigation costs involved in pursuing claims can put businesses under immense financial strain. This is particularly true when records are unclear or onerous to work with. Where evidence is unclear, the time and cost involved in resolving disputes can skyrocket. Over the past decade, HKA has helped clients use digital evidence to their advantage in dispute resolution. On this journey, we've developed an understanding of best practices for architecture, engineering, and construction projects. In this session, we'll cover how to produce useful evidence using models (and Autodesk software), and we'll discuss case studies showing best practices.

On rail infrastructure projects, consultants provide tunnel ring models for entire alignment, created using a two-point adaptive family based on the track center point via Dynamo. But these models lack detailed tunnel features—segmentation and dimple holes. Coordination with stakeholders requires complete tunnel models with segmentation and dimple holes. We must develop this detailed model to accurately place services brackets along the tunnel. The ring comprises eight segments, including a key segment with a varying location. A family of these segments, with a rotation parameter set by the tunnel's center point, is essential. Our process involves deriving the tunnel's center from track center points using geometric translations. Dynamo makes placement points for adaptive components. The angle of rotation is recorded on the site for the key segment in XYZ, and we develop construction model using that data. This construction model aids subcontractor in accurate service modeling.

This session will explore the tool for automatic generation of 3D rebar shop drawing utilizing Revit. The tool uses parametric modeling to create complicated rebar shop drawings twice as fast as conventional methods. When applied to a diaphragm wall of the subway project, the tool achieved a labor cost reduction of 150,000 USD. In addition, the speeding up of the shop drawing creation process enabled a more rational design with more detailed design cross-sections, and a 10% reduction in rebar material compared to the initial design. To improve the efficiency of the subsequent rebar processing process, trials are underway to link rebar information in Revit with rebar processing machines. In large-scale infrastructure projects, activities related to reinforcement (such as drawing, fabrication, and assembly) significantly impact the schedules and costs. This tool is expected to contribute to solving human resource issues and to sustainability by reducing material losses.

Researchers and facility managers at the University of Florida collaborated on implementing Autodesk Tandem software in facilities and asset management (FAM) operations with the goal of understanding how digital twins (DTs) can improve operational efficiency, automate repetitive tasks, and enhance preventative maintenance. Get an in-depth understanding of how we flawlessly integrated sensor and actuator device data using an academic building's Revit model in Tandem to create a DT that monitors facility performance in real time. Explore the benefits that facility managers gain from incorporating operations and maintenance manuals, cut sheets, wayfinding capabilities, and system tracing into DTs, as well as visualizing their occupancy rates and usage. Implemented effectively, DTs can yield significant ROI by fostering efficiency, spurring innovation, and providing a competitive edge. Future plans include creating a campusverse of DTs, using FAM data to transition to cognitive DTs, and using DTs in the formulation of a comprehensive campus FAM strategy.
