The data-rich attribution required for Building Information Modeling (BIM)-ready models often requires some level of customization so out-of-the-box objects can provide more value and represent level of development (LOD) stages throughout the project lifecycle. In this lab, we will progress through 4 distinct methods of creating custom attribution. We will start with block entities with attribution. Next, we will create custom properties via the Property Set utility. In method 3, we will turn geometry into a feature class and add custom data. And finally, we will use the tools in the Infrastructure Administrator to create an even more powerful geometry/data combination that will streamline some of the workflows that we just learned! In all of these examples, we will create, extract, and demonstrate data input/output flow for each method. As a final treat, we will jump into InfraWorks 360 software and learn the secret to making a custom feature class—now you don’t have to always put your wind-turbine models in the City Furniture type class! The parametric drawing tools will revolutionize the way that you draw and edit objects in AutoCAD. This class will introduce you to parametric drawing in AutoCAD by using both geometric and dimensional constraints to add intelligence to your objects. You’ll discover how using Auto Constrain and Inferred Constraints can help you quickly add constraints and change your process from drafting to modeling. If you’ve ever wanted geometry in your drawing to update based on changes that you’ve made to other objects, or if you’ve wanted to type a new value into a dimension and have the object update based on this new value, then this class is for you.

In this class, we’ll show how to solve a critical situation that might cause a waste of money and time in the maintenance operation of underground utilities of 630 railway stations. Lack of data causes major issues. To retrieve the correct information about the underground, we’ve established, for each station, an innovative workflow that starts from an AutoCAD file containing an old design of the utilities, mainly water system and sewerage. The first step of this workflow is the topographic and geophysics surveys, followed by a post-processing data and 3D rendering of the underground. Inside Civil 3D software, the 3D model of the underground utilities can be used to optimize the design of the sewerage and water system, and link them to information and documentation useful for maintenance operation.

This class provides a novel way of analyzing earthworks' logistics in linear projects such as railways and highways. As the availability of 3D models increases in the tender phase of Danish state-owned infrastructure projects, new possibilities emerge for the analyzing, estimating, and planning of construction projects. Freely available geographic information system (GIS) data, aerial imagery, and digital terrain models provide a basis for detailed analysis of project earthworks. A workflow using AutoCAD Civil 3D software, InfraWorks software, and Rhino-Grasshopper software is described, and examples of the results are shown using visualizations created in InfraWorks software.

Upskilling of people is a central theme of the future of making. As the tools we use to design the world of the future develop at an ever-increasing pace we understand the need to invest in our staff to make the most of these advances. At the end of 2017, 6 years after we published our first BIM strategy, we had reached an important milestone. For the first time, more than half the time our staff spent using Autodesk products was in 3D BIM software, and two-thirds of our global community of Autodesk users had used a 3D tool in the last 12 months. Although a cause for great success, it was also a time to reflect. What about the remaining third? What could we do to create better training opportunities? How could we ensure that capability was consistent across our business? How can we ensure the right people are working on the right project at the right time? This industry talk will explore these themes and share the lessons we have learnt delivering a training programme comprising 130 classroom courses, attracting 700+ trainees, and delivered in 20 counties by a network of 9 Autodesk partners, all in a 10-month programme.

This class will present techniques to efficiently use Revit for rebar detailing of bridge projects. Bridge design can be done with Autocad Civil 3D or Autodesk Infraworks but both packages have no tools for analysis and detailing of tendons and rebars. Bridge geometry can be imported into Revit from Infraworks and can be used to create a rebar model with tendons and to produce required deliveries like 2D drawings, schedules and data for production.

Attendees will learn how BIM workflows established in the building industry have to be modified to work in infrastructure projects and how they may use several products of SOFiSTiK to smoothen this workflows. In this class, you’ll learn how to use Civil 3D software to automate design and analysis of storm sewer networks with Hydraflow Extension tools. We’ll use AutoCAD software and Civil 3D to prepare data such as watershed and catchment areas, and lay out a drainage network for further analysis of hydrology and hydraulic in Hydraflow Extension. We’ll analyze hydrology, open channel flow, and culvert and pipe flow. We’ll also design detention ponds. And we’ll generate stage-storage curves, pond routing, and outflow hydrographs. We’ll use site-grading tools and corridors to complete design modeling.
