This case study demonstrates how new procedural design systems enabled rapid, no-code design exploration while balancing trade-offs between cost, carbon, and habitability. The study also showcases how the prototype made it onto Autodesk Forma using the developer extension model to deliver customized novel design functionality and metrics. Going beyond existing capabilities, Autodesk Research and Autodesk Forma enabled Factory_OS to rapidly and intuitively evaluate new development projects in a data-informed manner.

TileGPT is an LLM-powered prototype developed within Autodesk Research to generate optimized designs using intuitive and flexible text-based input. This session will cover the technical capabilities of this generative AI system, which uses optimization to enable rapid design exploration. It presents example use cases within AEC design, including performance-driven generation of building massing, site design, facade layouts, and more. With generative AI, Autodesk Research is expanding what's possible within design tools, and showcasing new design experiences that are fast, intuitive, and accessible.

As we integrate digital exchanges into our daily workflows and delivery processes, we need to maintain a good handle on the data associated with our digital assets and files. By continuously analyzing our models and data, not only are we able to maintain high levels of efficiency and productivity, but we are also ensuring that our models and data are suitable for downstream uses. Dynamo and scripting within Civil 3D software can play a key role in the creation, management, quality control, and delivery processes throughout the design lifecycle. In this session, we'll explore several ways design teams can extract, analyze, and react to the data being mined from our Civil 3D models, and set us up for future success along the way.

This session will present an integrated digital workflow that creates alternatives by automatically reviewing the risk of traffic accidents, earthwork volume, and design standards using a digital design model of roads when performing linear improvement on roads with high volumes of traffic accidents. This technology implemented the digital design procedure of the road with Dynamo and Python, based on Civil 3D software. In addition, the traffic accident risk index of the road section was reflected in the algorithm. In particular, the road design standards were digitized based on XML and reflected as evaluation models in creating alternatives. Through this process, the digital alignment of the road that minimizes the occurrence of traffic accidents is optimized within Civil 3D, and a digital road model is created that presents multiple alternatives by collectively reviewing the calculation of earthworks and whether the road design standards are satisfied.

Technology in the architecture, engineering, and construction (AEC) industry is changing rapidly. To keep up with this accelerated pace, VHB is stating that our default design practice will be model-based design (MBD) by 2025. This means training 800+ Civil 3D users in more-automated, connected, and advanced workflows. We recognize that to create this large-scale shift we need to train a generation of innovative and inspiring coaches to help guide others through this change. Advanced MBD Training was created to mold 10% of our Civil 3D users into MBD Project Coaches. As MBD Project Coaches, they'll be expected to advance MBD from automating processes to creating more-efficient workflows. The training will focus not only on our core tool, Civil 3D, but it will also include Dynamo, InfraWorks software, Subassembly Composer, Grading Optimization, ArcGIS Connector, Autodesk Construction Cloud, and Twinmotion. This session will walk through how we built and implemented this program to accelerate change at VHB.

The 2011 Christchurch Earthquakes in New Zealand decimated a city full of 500,000 people. Government and residents required fast and decisive action. Twelve years later, the rebuild continues. What would this city's rebuild look like now with all the new technology applied? Could we respond more rapidly? Could the city be carbon neutral? Would we focus on the same projects? Within the industrial water market, it can be a real challenge to bridge the gap between tools that are great for designing buildings and tools that are great for designing process plants. Achieving design synchronization between spatial and schematic designs with a high level of confidence is the ultimate goal. However, producing process schematics and spatial drawings and managing the equipment data becomes complex when dealing with traditional data silos in current project execution processes. True data-driven workflows will require innovation and disruption to achieve next-level results. This is one story of how Revit software, Dynamo, and Forge have helped us look at this traditional problem from a new perspective. We’ve solved some longstanding challenges, and we still have some unanswered questions, but we’re excited and optimistic about the possibilities for the future.

As the title of this session indicates, we will share lessons learned. Attendees will get an overview of the team structure and data flow, as well as a deeper dive into how to overcome the challenges the UCHealth team encountered, such as parameter concatenation, data revision, and uploading of information changes. India's oldest construction company was established in 1865. Learn how it's swiftly adapting to the ongoing advancements in cloud-based common data environment (CDE) platforms for efficiently managing highly fragmented construction data generated on a large-scale project in Mumbai, India. In a traditional setup, more than 200 hours of additional time is spent per month across five functions and 12 roles, leading to multiple layers of duplicity of information and data entry. In an attempt to drastically reduce this time spent, the project team has adopted Autodesk Construction Cloud to create powerful workflows that successfully connect teams across various functions, leading to a significant improvement in data transparency and accessibility, and thus closing the gap between site and the project management office. The powerful combination of GD and Generative Artificial Intelligence (GAI) has the potential to assist architects in improving building functionality and sustainability, enhancing value for architects, developers, and residents. However, ethical and social sustainability values may be overlooked if the metrics of the GD and GAI are not instructed to identify and prioritize them. This class will combine findings from a multidisciplinary research project from Carnegie Mellon University, and real-life architectural projects by HED. Learn how to prioritize important equity and social sustainability values in human-in-the-loop AI powered design frameworks, making ethical and socio-sustainable design decisions measurable and transparent to all stakeholders, for a more equitable and resilient built environment.

luis vidal + architects is an international studio well-known for leading architectural and environmental innovation, high-quality projects, and excellent user experience. Since 2012, it has transformed its DNA and worldwide offices looking for a cultural and technological accomplishment using building information modeling (BIM) methodology. The main goals have been to eliminate geographical barriers, find a unique method of communication, and share the studio's pioneer ideas about design, multidisciplinary coordination, and sustainability. In this case, study we'll cover how the adoption of BIM 360 Team launched the beginning of a continuous improvement of workflows, until the arrival of a new era of social changes with the launching of Autodesk Construction Cloud with Autodesk BIM Collaborate Pro software. We'll highlight the relationship, progress, decisions, health models, revisions, results, and problems found in this virtual environment, where the ethical principles are the same for 500 square meters and 1,200 participants.

This course will present a series of "how to" and "how come" case studies on using Forma to expand contextual understanding of architectural design. Where Revit excels at designing with the building envelop in, Forma excels at connecting building design to a broader context. Specifically, this is where working with Forma opens a new mode of architectural exploration with an emphasis on outcome-based design thinking. Forma allows the construction and analysis of a series of complex site-based issues: topography and existing conditions, environmental factors, infrastructure, and geographic data (GIS). This is then combined with multiple design proposals to study impact on energy, accessibility and circulation, embodied carbon, and the visceral connection between the building and site that can only be resolved through iterative, simulated explorations.
