Clash detection is integral during the design process to ensure coordinated and ready-for-construction models are produced. A properly implemented clash detection practice will result in a reduced number of RFIs during construction, and ultimately decreases the costs associated with uncoordinated design models. An offline clash detection process becomes increasingly challenging in a design-build megaproject where dozens of models are developed at a fast pace. Therefore, there is a need for a cloud-based, collaborative, and centralized clash detection platform where the designed models are actively integrated and monitored collectively for outstanding coordination issues. Getting accurate quantities doesn't start when you build a material list; it starts at the creation of the corridor assembly. This being said, using subassemblies that don’t depict the true build may yield quantities that are inaccurate. By using Subassembly Composer software, the user can construct a subassembly that will represent truly how the corridor will be built in the field. With the ability to add point, link, and shape codes to the subassembly, the end user can take full advantage of using pay items. Pay items will not only calculate an accurate quantity but can also categorize the quantity into subcategories. This class will walk the user through the process of creating subassemblies with Enumerations, Switches, and Decisions. Then you'll apply codes to the points, links, and shapes of the subassembly for use with the pay items in AutoCAD Civil 3D's code sets.

The old days of tissue paper seemed to have died with Civil 3D software, or have they? The mentality and methods used to grade are often using the computer as a sketch tool. We will look at how to use Civil 3D software to provide us with information and grade our site and subdivision efficiently and with a well-defined model. We will learn about feature lines, grading groups, grading objects, corridors, and surface editing.

ObjectARX technology is the premier API (application programming interface) that is supported by AutoCAD software, AutoCAD for Mac software, and the industry-specific AutoCAD software systems. If you need to access APIs that aren't exposed through AutoLISP programming language, if you want to create applications that are optimized for large data sets, or if you need to build efficient applications for Windows and Mac OS, ObjectARX technology may be the most effective API for you. This lecture will help you understand the basics of ObjectARX technology. We will discuss which development tools you need, how to interact with AutoCAD software, and how to create a very simple 'Hello World-esque' project. ObjectARX technology utilizes the C++ programming language, but this session does not require that you know C++. But what about creating subassemblies that are useful across many projects? In this class we will demonstrate how to successfully parameterize a custom subassembly, complete with targets. We will also explore a 4-sided example that Sundt Construction, Inc., has found very useful in corridor modeling.

The BIM 360 cloud collaboration services are enabling teams to work within an enriched review workflow and allowing them to evaluate and validate their design through clash reporting and spatial coordination exercises which allow teams to find, assign and track issues instantaneously with unprecedented access. We will explore the evolving possibilities provided by these Autodesk services to enhance a workflow traditionally done through 2D digital files or hardcopies of progress sets in a detached workflow. Focused on the interoperability between BIM360, Revit, Civil3D and Navisworks, we will demonstrate their applications and best practices, discovered through large project use, which enables the team to become 100% digital using the web interface or mobile applications. We will highlight solutions for transitioning a team into BIM 360 to conduct reviews, and discuss some of the common challenges encountered during this migration.

We can extend AutoCAD software in a number of ways, but many users are unsure of where or how to get started. In this lab you will create custom desktop icons, modify the ribbon and Quick Access toolbar, create and modify command aliases that you can use to start commands, and define tools and tool palettes to reduce repetitive drawing tasks. This lab will give you a solid foundation in some of the available customization features that AutoCAD software offers to help you become more productive when you return to your office.

Assemblies figure prominently in the building of Civil 3D corridors. They provide the basic information that can be used in many ways as your design takes shape. There is the potential for a lot of data, and since wrangling that data later could get confusing, having a strategy to manage the building blocks of corridors can make the long-term maintenance pay off. AutoLISP programming language has been around for decades, yet there are many functions that often go undiscovered or forgotten by veteran AutoLISP programmers. While there are hundreds of AutoLISP programming language functions (thousands, if you count ActiveX), this class will focus on 21 functions that new developers often overlook and that veteran programmers often forget. All of the functions fit into 1 of several different themes, including function execution, object creation and manipulation, and error handling.
