High-quality architectural presentations are more than just good-looking renders; your images need to tell a compelling story. This course will show you how to use 3ds Max software to create cinema-quality presentations and expertly showcase your architectural projects. The course will explain the basics of composition and visual storytelling from a filmmaker’s perspective, including such topics as storyboarding, shot selection, shot sequencing, and screen motion. We’ll then dive into camera techniques and workflow in 3ds Max, including camera selection, animation, rigging, and rendering, following through to postproduction and final output. Every building tells a story—learn how to tell the best story for your project.

Creating animations in 3ds Max software is quick, easy, and fun. In this class, you will learn to animate the movement of daylight throughout a day to create an animated shadow study. This study will provide an accurate representation of how daylight will cast shadows in the scene. You will start by creating a Sun Positioner that provides realistic sunlight with a full sky environment. This system uses a simple and intuitive workflow to create geographically correct positioning and movement of the sun. You will then animate the position of the sun over time for a realistic shadow study.

Let’s take a look at how we can use 3ds Max software in photo shoots for advertising campaigns. We used 3ds Max to help The Sunday Times produce campaigns for Kia Motors and Grundig. 3ds Max helped us meet publication deadlines that wouldn't be possible with photography. When sourcing and constructing sets was unfeasible, 3ds Max stepped in. Using interactive rendering alongside a photographer, we placed influencers in their dream kitchens. After putting four influencers into virtual sets, we conducted a car shoot with a specific shoot location but without the car (the Kia e-Niro release was imminent and the car was not in the country). In this talk, you will learn how we used computer-generated imagery (CGI) to complement photography, and how we used interactive rendering for instant feedback, saving hundreds of hours in production by using 3ds Max.

A modern VFX (visual effects) rendering pipeline is made up of many materials with detailed descriptions called looks. Looks need to be passed across different software products without loss of fidelity. Current workflows involve duplication across complex pipeline tasks that are hard and laborious to maintain. Arnold software lets you author asset looks in any supported software and then reuse the same looks in another software using the Arnold data format, which is fully extensible. Arnold furthers this approach by capitalizing on open-source back ends like MaterialX and USD, enabling users to build a very flexible, reusable, and connected pipeline. Arnold users can take advantage of this interoperability right out of the box. The data is always live, enabling users to make alterations (major or minor) at any point in the pipeline. In this talk, you will learn about setting up your pipeline to capitalize on reusability of looks. You will also see examples of taking your asset looks through different software.

Technology is rapidly changing our world, specifically in the last year we’ve seen a significant increase in the use of virtual reality (VR) within the manufacturing and construction industries. VR is being adopted in manufacturing to train employees more thoroughly and efficiently, and it’s being used for training in construction in a number of areas including workplace safety, basic simulation, and extreme task simulation. Both of these industries are primed to implement VR at a massive scale, because they are extremely hands on in nature and can also be very dangerous without the proper training and experience. HTC VIVE, NVIDIA, and DELL will explore several use cases on increasing construction and manufacturing safety through VR, the benefits of VR for training and how the technology is changing the way the AEC industry works from design, to simulation, to implementation.

During this hands-on lab, you will learn how to use the best and latest 3ds Max productivity tools to speed up your CAD-based design animation workflows. After participating in the lab, you will understand which material types are the best to use for your Revit, Civil 3D, InfraWorks, or Inventor projects. In addition to rendering traditional still images, you will learn how to embed liquid simulations in your projects and you will be able to render your project ready to be used in VR on time and on budget.

The class will discuss the process of creating aerial cinematography and integrating computer-generated elements, including shoot preproduction and planning, helicopters and drones, FAA and aircraft limitations, cameras, high-frequency and low-frequency vibrations, rolling shutter, stabilization systems, footage selects, post-shoot stabilization, 3D tracking, 3D lighting, 3D rendering, compositing, color, and finishing. The course will be illustrated by videos of actual shoots, behind-the-scenes photos, and screen captures of post-production processes. The class will also review timelines and costs.

This lecture will focus on the workflow associated with collecting point cloud data and bringing it into Revit software and 3ds Max Design software for project interaction and improvement of projects' accuracy and quality. In addition, we will explore the timesaving features of using digitally collected data for integration in 3D modeling software. Attendees will bring point cloud data into Revit software and 3ds Max software to create a project. They will learn the workflow and be able to describe the process of merging and using the data.

In this session, we’ll look at different strategies for visualizing your design data with Autodesk technology. Habitat 67 is a model community and housing complex in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, designed by Israeli-Canadian architect Moshe Safdie. It is one of the most recognizable projects in modular urbanization and construction. Sadly, what was built is only a fraction of Safdie's original design. The existing structure was intended to be the first phase of a much larger complex, but budget restrictions meant his original vision never came to life. Until today. In this class, you'll learn how Unreal Engine was used to create an immersive and interactive experience of the original Habitat 67. You'll explore the value of using Unreal Engine to bring architectural designs to life, and discover how 3ds Max software was used in the creation of this project, in addition to RealityCapture.

Funny enough, that is exactly what USD is aiming to address. USD stands for Universal Scene Description, and it is an open-source initiative, meaning it is being built in a public facing manner, without any single company claiming ownership of its development. Rather, multiple companies share the same vision – a world where sharing production assets among programs is consistent, reliable and easy. In this class you will learn USD's origin, where its currently at in the Media & Entertainment Industry, where it is headed, and how these techniques and technologies add benefit to any industry pipeline.

Creating visualizations can be challenging, but it can become easier with a step-by-step system that artists can follow. This system can act as a guide, providing a checklist of points that need to be included in the image to make it fabulous. In collaboration with the team, we've developed an eight-step system to share with you. It includes the following steps: composition, camera setup, lighting, color balance, materials, assets, storytelling, and postproduction. Combining these points leads to excellent results. Each is important, and the lack of one can lead to failure. The key is to find a balance between them, which comes with practice.
